Hello Mamas!

By

First off, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas! I hope and pray that you feel so loved and celebrated today!

Happy Mother’s Day to my precious Momma, Sharon Cheek, who I love so much and lean on daily to be the best mom I can be! She taught me to be a lover and nurturer. I love you Momma! Happy Mother’s Day also to my amazing mother-in-love, Anita Pratt! Our family is so blessed with your love and support! Thank you for all that you do! I couldn’t do motherhood without the love and support from both of my mothers.

Welcome to my blog, My Motherhood Ministry!

What did you come here looking for today? Are you wondering what my motherhood journey looks like? Are you wondering what a SAHM does day? Are you wondering what having 3 littles looks like? Would you like to grow closer to God through through motherhood? Well, you are about to gain all the answers to these questions and more!

Now, a little about me:

My name is Gracie Pratt. I have been married to the LOVE of my life, my husband, Brooks Pratt for almost 8 years. The Lord has blessed us with three precious children: Vivian (5), Mary Catherine (2), and Parker (3 months). We live in a small town in North Mississippi. We love the Lord and dedicate our lives to His service daily.

So here is little bit more about me before motherhood began…

I attended Northeast Mississippi Community College, Ole Miss, and then the University of Southern Mississippi for graduate school to earn my Masters Degree to become a Speech-Language Pathologist.

After earning my Masters Degree, Brooks and I got married in Corinth, MS at the First Presbyterian Church of Corinth. I then moved with Brooks to our first home together in Madison, MS while he finished medical school at University of Mississippi Medical Center. While living in Madison, I worked as an SLP at a skilled nursing home facility with the geriatric population. I loved my patients and hearing all about their lives. After nine months, I earned my clinical certification and moved back to my hometown to work for an outpatient clinic for five AMAZING years at King Speech Language Therapy Clinic! Shout out to the owner and one of my best friends, Ruth Ann King. She is the most incredible mother, wife, friend, and boss. She taught me so many important tips and ticks of the motherhood world. I miss our daily check-ins and I can honestly say she was my first “mom friend” and we still stay connected to this day. I love you Ruth Ann. I would definitely say the Lord knew what he was doing when he helped me choose my career as an SLP because I use the skills I learned in school and in my practice daily as a mama.

Brooks graduated medical school in 2020 and then started his residency in family medicine at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

After Brooks finished residency at NMMC, he began working with his father in Corinth, MS as a family medicine doctor.

After Brooks finished residency, I switched hats from being an SLP to my now career as a full time stay-at-home momma, the BEST job in the world!

Brooks and I are both family-centered folks and love spending our time with our children, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. I have two siblings, Lauren and Houston, who I love so much! Getting to experience motherhood with your sister is the BEST!!! Brooks has two siblings: Shelby and Brady. Shelby, I’m so thankful we have gotten to raise daughters who are 12 weeks apart in age! I love you so much! I also have two amazing sister-in-laws, Mary-Grace Pratt and Laura Cheek, who I love more than anything. And two awesome brother-in-laws, Jordan Watts and Tanner Sparks, both talented in many ways!

I would also like to brag I have the best mom friend group who we call “Mom Brain” in our group text. The amazing moms that make up the “Mom Brain” have helped me become the mom I am today! They have kept me busy with play dates with our children, coffee runs, trips to Marshall’s, endless birthday parties, hosted baby showers for me twice, and many more precious memories together. Plus many other moms who I love hanging out with to keep me sane and grounded in this motherhood journey. I love y’all!

Now back to the reason you are probably here, the story of motherhood…

Motherhood started for me 5 years ago in May of 2021 following the Pandemic. I was so confident that I had everything going for me to be a mother. First off, my degree was centered around child development. I also was and still am blessed that we live close to both sides of our family. I also have the most supportive husband in the world, who at the time was a busy resident physician working long shifts both days and nights and some months of away residencies at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital while Vivian was an infant.

Needless to say motherhood unfortunately didn’t come as easy as I envisioned it would.

I can’t wait to share my birth stories of all 3 of my children, one of which was a natural hospital birth with no epidural, but I’m saving that as a carrot to get you to come back and read more.

I STRUGGLED as a new mom, in every way possible. Vivian refused to breastfeed due to feeding difficulties due to oral restrictions which then led to oral surgery when she was 17 days old that then led to me experiencing guilt and postpartum depression. I also didn’t have the immediate bonding with her that I hoped and dreamed I always would when I had children. Honestly, it took six months for that to happen for me. The first few months were trying, then turned into character building moments for me. I was lonely and wished for company of others.

But then something beautiful happended…

After many ups and downs and the blessing of adding two more precious children and lots of motherhood “practice” I can honestly say I am finally experiencing the true fruits of the ministry of motherhood thanks to the Lord!!! I felt it in my heart that the Lord was asking me to step out and share more of what I love to do most and what brought me the closest to HIM…. motherhood. Its beautiful and hard all at the same time. I cant wait to share more of my motherhood journey with you.

I hope you will come back and read more. The Lord and I have many ideas about where this blog will go next so stay tuned to my socials to see when the next blog post will drop!

Mission statement: Motherhood is a divine calling. I hope to empower, inspire, and encourage other mothers in their own journeys and ultimately draw us all closer to the Lord.

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” – Proverbs 31:31

Happy Mother’s Day!
